Tips for Students

Entering your first year of college is always a challenge, but it seems to be more of a challenge for kids with ADHD, or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder. People with ADHD have trouble staying organized, but the good news is that it can be a little easier once you learn a few tips.

Finding yourself with a deadline that you forgot about is common with ADHD students, but you can always choose a professional online essay writing service when this happens. Other than that, there are other things you can do to get through that first year of college without any problems, and below are some of them.

Work with Your Tendency to Procrastinate

If you plan out how many hours it will take you to complete a certain project, you may be able to procrastinate every now and then without it hurting you. Huh? To stay organized, it’s best to jot everything down and allocate enough time for every task you need to complete.

If you calculate how much time it will take to research and write a paper, you can procrastinate a little in between the research and the writing. Otherwise, keep in mind the tip about the essay writing service.

Schedule All of Your Study Time

Cramming the night before a test might have worked in high school, but it won’t work once you get to college. When you’re scheduling all of your appointments in your planner, make sure that you allocate time for studying.

Don’t just say, “I’ll study as much as I can, whenever I get the chance.” Instead, enter the amount of time you intend to study in your planner or appointment book, whether it’s a hard copy or an online planner. If you do this, you won’t accidentally “forget” to study and you’ll already have that time allotted for studying.

Use Rewards to Help You Stick with Your Plan

If you have a favorite place to visit on campus, such as a coffee house or bagel shop, promise yourself you’ll go there and reward yourself after you study for a certain amount of time. You have to have a plan, of course, but you also have to have a method of sticking to that plan.

Rewards are often just what you need if you’re having trouble sticking to a plan. ADHD students will often not stick to their plans without some type of reward system.

Wake up on Time Every Day

If you’re late for a morning appointment, it’s usually because you either got up late, got sidetracked, or you’re just disorganized. If you tend to get up late, set two alarms and put them on the opposite side of the room so you have to get up to turn them off. If you get sidetracked, set a goal that you won’t do the things that keep you sidetracked until later in the day.

And even if you intend to use an essay writing service for a class paper, you still should get up early and stick to a schedule even though you won’t be writing this particular paper.
