Sleep Ring

A sleep ring or device can be a helpful tool for those who are suffering from sleeping conditions like insomnia and sleep apnea. In today’s society, people are recognizing the importance of a good night’s rest and how it can affect their daily routines. Many young adults are also starting to become more health-conscious which is why tracking or monitoring different physiological functions became a necessity.

Sleeping is an essential part of our everyday lives. It allows us to recharge and stay alert throughout long hours of the day. Sleeping is necessary for our nervous system and getting the proper amount of sleep is essential to our health. Sleep deprivation is not only bad for our cognitive skills but can also be detrimental to our overall health in the long run.

Monitoring your sleep is important especially when it comes to finding ways to correct our circadian rhythm which is our internal body clock. A sleep ring or watch is a type of wearable device that can track different aspects of our body while at rest. It can provide all the necessary information that we need to see how our body reacts in the different stages of sleep.

Differentiating the Four Sleep Stages

There are generally four stages of sleep and the first three are classified under non-rapid eye movement or NREM. As we get closer to waking up, our body goes through the final stage commonly known as REM or rapid eye movement.

Stage 1- This stage is the transition between consciousness and sleep. Your breathing, heart rate, and muscles relax and brain waves become less active.

Stage 2- As you approach stage 2, your body will continue relaxing and your eye movements will stop. Your body temperature will also slowly go down while your body is at rest. Stage 2 is usually the longest period of all stages.

Stage 3- This stage is where your breathing, muscles, brain activity, and heart rate are at their lowest. It is especially important in keeping your mind and body refreshed for the next day.

REM Stage- The REM stage is where you have the most brain activity. Studies show that this stage is essential for learning and memory. On average, a person can experience the REM stage at least three times each night.

How Wearable Devices Can Benefit Your Sleeping Patterns

With so much going on in the different stages of sleep, it’s important to monitor our different physiological functions in order to determine what aspects we need to focus on. A sleep ring or wearable device is something that professionals use to track a patient’s sleeping patterns.

Wearable technology can also provide patients with different information about their health and fitness. Today, there are many different kinds of wearable devices in the market. A typical sleep ring or watch has many features and if you’re interested in purchasing one for yourself, here are some examples of what they can do for you:

  • Tracks your heart rate under different conditions.
  • Monitors body temperature changes at all stages of sleep and consciousness.
  • Detects interruptions in different sleep stages.
  • Monitors stress levels and breathing patterns.
  • Measures oxygen levels and cardiac output.
  • Provides in-depth information regarding sleeping patterns.
