ESO Sip of Stamina Recipe: Reagents and How to Craft It
Natural Water plus two Restore Stamina reagents. Here are the combinations that work, and the ones to avoid for writs.
In this article
Sip of Stamina is the lowest-tier stamina potion in The Elder Scrolls Online. You make it at any alchemy station with Natural Water and two reagents that both have the Restore Stamina trait. It comes up constantly in early alchemy writs, so it’s worth knowing the combinations by heart.
What you need
- Solvent: Natural Water, the level 3 potion solvent. You gather it from water nodes while your Solvent Proficiency is low, or buy it cheaply from guild traders.
- Two reagents with Restore Stamina. Five reagents have it: Blessed Thistle, Columbine, Dragon’s Blood, Dragonthorn and Mountain Flower.
- An alchemy station. Every major city and most towns have one, marked with the alchemy icon on your map.
Reliable Sip of Stamina combinations
A potion gets every effect its reagents have in common. To get a clean Sip of Stamina, pick two reagents that share Restore Stamina and nothing else. These pairs do exactly that, and all four herbs grow in every zone outside Coldharbour:
| Reagent 1 | Reagent 2 | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Dragonthorn | Columbine | Sip of Stamina |
| Dragonthorn | Mountain Flower | Sip of Stamina |
| Blessed Thistle | Columbine | Sip of Stamina |
| Blessed Thistle | Mountain Flower | Sip of Stamina |
Two pairings to avoid if you only want stamina:
- Blessed Thistle + Dragonthorn share Increase Weapon Power as well, so you get a two-effect potion.
- Columbine + Mountain Flower share Restore Health too, so the potion restores both health and stamina.
Neither is wasted. Two-effect potions are more useful in combat, but they may not be the item a writ asks for.
How to craft it, step by step
- Open an alchemy station and select the Creation tab.
- Drop Natural Water into the solvent slot.
- Add your two reagents, for example Dragonthorn and Columbine.
- Check the preview. It should read “Sip of Stamina” with a single Restore Stamina effect.
- Craft. Each craft uses one solvent and one of each reagent.
If a trait on a reagent is still unknown to you, the preview can show a question mark. Crafting the potion once reveals the shared trait, and the game remembers it from then on.
Sip of Stamina and alchemy writs
Low-level alchemy writs often ask for a Sip of Stamina, Sip of Health or Sip of Magicka, sometimes together with a basic poison. Read the writ carefully: it names the exact potion. Then craft it with the matching solvent. Using a higher-level water produces a different potion, such as Tincture of Stamina, which won’t complete a Natural Water writ.

Stronger versions as you level
The same two reagents make better stamina potions as you unlock higher solvents through the Solvent Proficiency passive:
| Solvent | Level | Potion |
|---|---|---|
| Natural Water | 3 | Sip of Stamina |
| Clear Water | 10 | Tincture of Stamina |
| Pristine Water | 20 | Dram of Stamina |
| Cleansed Water | 30 | Potion of Stamina |
| Filtered Water | 40 | Solution of Stamina |
| Purified Water | CP 10 | Elixir of Stamina |
| Cloud Mist | CP 50 | Panacea of Stamina |
| Star Dew | CP 100 | Distillate of Stamina |
| Lorkhan’s Tears | CP 150 | Essence of Stamina |
Tips that save time
- Put a point in Keen Eye: Reagents so herbs show up from further away while you quest.
- Pick Columbine whenever you see it. It carries Restore Health, Restore Magicka and Restore Stamina, so it fits all three basic sips.
- Craft in batches. Make ten sips at once, and the next few stamina writs are already done.
